Having made its first appearance in Italy during the 17th century, opera is the masterpiece at the heart of Italian culture. The beauty of this roman language allows us to discover and appreciate the characteristics of this culture. Montreal’s Italian Week Festival is proud to announce that for its 18th edition, Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto will be presented. This opera, which consists of three acts and four scenes, focuses on the social tensions and women’s conditions prior to the 19th century. With a combination of great melodies, dramatic scenes and precision, the opera mainly concentrates on a dramatic and original character, a court jester, whose only fear is to see his daughter, Gilda, become a victim of Duke of Mantua’s dissolute adventures. Approached by a hit man named Sparafucile, Rigoletto decides to accept the killer’s offer to protect his daughter. With one of the most surprising endings, this piece is a definite must-see!
